About this piece

A low viewpoint follows the palm from its exposed roots to a crown of sweeping green fronds. Behind the textured trunk, sunlight breaks through layered clouds above the ocean, contrasting the tree’s strong vertical presence with the level horizon.

The story

I framed the palm from close to its roots, letting their tangled lines lead my eye upward into the fronds. Beyond the trunk, the sea formed a narrow blue band beneath a sky full of gold and gray. What held my attention was the contrast: leaves swept to one side, water breaking along the sand, and this weathered tree standing between them. I wanted the photograph to hold both movement and endurance.
