Arches into Blue

About this piece

A long arcade of weathered bridge arches crosses turquoise water, converging at the horizon with a parallel line of utility poles. The softly rendered surface and luminous cloud cover contrast with the bridge’s stained textures and repeated dark openings.

The story

I framed the bridge from beside the water, letting its arches draw my eye toward the distant meeting of sea and sky. Along the wires, birds formed a second, smaller rhythm beside the heavy structure. What held me was the contrast: weathered surfaces above, soft blue water below, and peach light spreading through the clouds. I wanted the photograph to hold those different measures of time together for a moment.
