Photographed from below, an F-22 Raptor fills the frame with sharply angled wings and the intricate paneling of its underside. The uninterrupted blue sky isolates the aircraft, bringing its metallic surfaces and geometric silhouette into clear relief.

The story

I followed the aircraft through the viewfinder as its bank revealed the broad geometry beneath it. Against the clear blue, there was nothing to distract from the edges of the wings or the changing light across the metal. I wanted to hold that brief alignment, when a machine built for speed could be studied as a shape. For one frame, the sky became a spare backdrop to every seam and angle.
