The story

An October evening gathers in bands of orange and gold above the water. Along the pier, figures linger beside the railings, and fishing rods reach into the open sky. Beneath them, waves divide the reflected light into trembling fragments. A thin wash of foam advances over the sand, bringing the sky briefly to shore.
