The story
On this November day, the water holds a pale brightness, broken by the blue weight of a small boat. Ripples loosen its reflection into narrow bands of color. Two figures stand above the water with fishing rods angled into the sky, their waiting echoed by the empty hull. Farther out, a white mast makes a fine vertical mark against the horizon. Across the open space between them, light gathers on a metal ladder.
