About this piece

An intensely orange horizon illuminates a rocky coastline, with palms and waterfront buildings gathered along the left edge. Large foreground boulders anchor the composition, while bands of surf carry the eye toward a distant mountain ridge beneath layered rose and charcoal clouds.

The story

December finds this shore green with palms, their fronds outlined against a sky of ember and rose. Water slips between the dark rocks, gathering ribbons of orange before breaking into white foam. Beside the waterfront buildings, a roofed pavilion faces the open sea. The horizon glows while the foreground stones settle into shadow, holding small traces of light along their rough edges.
