Successive bands of breaking surf fill the frame, their turquoise faces edged with dense white foam and airborne spray. Bright light passes through the crests, while scattered surfers and a small drone establish scale within the layered composition. The sea appears both luminous and formidable.
The story
On this December day, the sea rises in overlapping ridges, leaving narrow spaces of dark water between them. Wind lifts spray from the crests until the horizon nearly disappears behind a white veil. A surfer traces a brief line down a wave while others wait beyond the breaking foam. For a moment, the nearest crest holds its green light; then its edge begins to fall.
