Where Shadows Lead

About this piece

A wooden pier extends toward palm-lined waterfront buildings, its converging railings drawing the eye beneath a sequence of curved white lamps. Strong sunlight warms the timber and casts long, repeating shadows across the boards, while blue water and towering clouds open the composition to either side. The contrast between measured lines and expansive sky lends the scene a luminous calm.

The story

Late July light lays a ladder of shadows along the pier. Each plank carries its own grain beneath the repeating dark bars, and the water glints through the railings. Ahead, palms rise beside shaded balconies and a terrace of turquoise chairs. The white lamps diminish into the distance, marking a quiet passage between the shelter of buildings and the open sea.
