A Crown Among Feathers

About this piece

A rooster turns its head into its plumage, its scarlet comb rising above a dense sweep of golden-orange feathers. Strong light reveals fine feather filaments and textured red skin, while blue-black wing feathers anchor the tightly cropped composition. The softly blurred background isolates an intimate gesture within a brilliant field of color.

The story

On this March day, light catches the rooster's plumage in narrow strands of gold. Its head folds inward, leaving one dark eye visible beside the red ridge of its comb. Long feathers cross its face, softening the boundary between head and body. Within this small enclosure of feathers, the world seems to narrow to the quiet work of tending oneself.
