Where the Shore Pauses

About this piece

A life ring on a numbered post and tall dune grasses frame a sandy approach to the sea, where a pavilion-topped pier recedes toward the horizon. Light from the left picks out footprints and slender grass blades, while the black-and-white tones lend the scattered beachgoers and quiet water a measured stillness.

The story

Late April light falls across the sand, tracing the edges of footprints that overlap on their way to the water. Beside the path, a life ring hangs beneath the number ten. Beyond it, small waves meet the shore, and figures gather along the beach and pier. The grasses fill the near view with fine, crossing lines; farther out, the sea leaves room for the eye to rest.
