Seen from within a sea cave, breaking surf fills a rugged opening beneath an arch of shadowed rock. Turquoise water and white spray contrast with the cave’s violet-blue surfaces, while sunlight picks out warm gold along the rocks at its mouth.

The story

I framed the sea through the uneven opening, letting the dark rock hold the edges of the photograph. Beyond it, the horizon lay almost perfectly straight, a quiet line above the restless water. As a wave broke across the entrance, white spray rose into the blue and light caught the wet ledges. For that instant, I could see both the weight of the cave and the movement that keeps reshaping its threshold.
