The story

January opens here in clear blue and sunlit shallows. A small wave curls onto the sand, briefly softening the tree’s branching shadow. Beside the seawall, exposed roots and worn wood hold their intricate shapes against the smooth expanse of water. Farther out, tiny markers punctuate the horizon; the eye passes between them and continues into blue.
