The story

I watched the water gather just beyond the pale edge of sand. As the wave steepened, its blue deepened, then opened into a band of turquoise beneath the spray. I framed that brief change against the dark rocks and the mountain slopes beyond them. What held my attention was the contrast: the shore seemed settled and unmoving, while the sea made a shape that would last only an instant.
