About this piece
Three small boats punctuate a broad expanse of peach and pink water, their painted hulls reflected in fine ripples. Mooring poles trace slender verticals against the horizontal bands of the bay, while palms and distant rock formations give the luminous scene its coastal setting.
The story
I found myself looking at the spaces between the boats as much as the boats themselves. Blue, white, and yellow held their places across the bay, each surrounded by a different patch of reflected light. Beyond them, the palms gathered along the shore and the rocks lay low against the sky. I framed the scene to leave room for that open water, where even a slender mooring pole could draw a long, wavering line.
