Where Gold Meets Water

About this piece
A concrete pier extends diagonally from the upper left toward the horizon, its repeating supports reflected in gently rippling water. Low sunlight shines beneath the deck, spreading gold across the sea and wet sand against a broad blue sky. The structure’s measured rhythm contrasts with the soft curves of the breaking surf.
The story
On this May day, the low sun finds an opening beneath the pier and fills it with gold. A small wave gathers along the shore, its blue edge folding into white foam. Above it, the railings and slender lamps diminish toward the horizon. Water loosens the dark reflections of the supports, and the wet sand holds the light a moment longer.
