The Weight of Holding
MG-1576
Category: Tidal Light
August 2020
About this piece
A weathered wooden rigging fitting, threaded with dark rope and held by a steel cable, occupies the left side of the frame. Warm light picks out cracked grain and braided fibers, while shallow focus dissolves the surrounding equipment into amber planes and crossing lines. The close composition gives this working detail a quiet, sculptural presence.
The story
On this August day, light gathers along the worn edges of the wood. Dark rope passes through the fitting and falls into a dense arrangement of knots, each strand catching a narrow glint. Behind it, amber surfaces soften until the surrounding vessel becomes a field of warmth. The eye stays with the small details: a split in the grain, the twist of wire, the close weave of fibers holding together.
