The story

Late May light settles across the sand at Miami Beach, warming the tower’s yellow boards and green edges. Its raised platform faces a sea that holds only a narrow fringe of ripples along the shore. Below, footprints interrupt the fine, parallel lines left in the sand. Farther down the beach, another bright tower repeats the watchful shape on a smaller scale. The broad sky leaves room for everything to remain still.
